Gender abuse continues to be a major challenge in Kenya, with over 45% of Kenyan Women lamenting about physical abuse. Gender violence results in dysfunctional families, lack of cohesion amongst spouses and has been linked to substance abuse. The Kenyan government has been deliberate in reforming the legal system to protect women and initiating cultural shifts through education curriculum changes. Government’s effort have been impactful but not adequate and must be bolstered by gender-based organizations and the civil society. There’s a need therefore to review the legal and social environment affecting the operations of the civil society and gender-based agencies.
